Virginia
Tech has named Paul Winistorfer as the new dean of the College of
Natural Resources. Winistorfer, who currently heads the college’s
Department of Wood Science and Forest Products, will assume the duties
of dean as of August 1 when current dean Mike Kelly steps down after
five years.
Senior Vice President Mark McNamee praised Winistorfer
for having a “clear vision” for expanding the college, while Dean Mike
Kelly expressed confidence in Winistorfer’s “personable” leadership
style.
Winistorfer has served on the Board of Directors of WoodLINKS
USA and as a Fellow in the International Academy of Wood Science, in
addition to having international experience in Ireland, Chile, England,
and Australia.
Winistorfer will be replaced by Audrey Zink-Sharp, a
wood science professor and current director of the Sustainable
Engineered Materials Institute at Virginia Tech. Zink-Sharp will
assume her official duties as interim head on July 10, three weeks
before Winistorfer officially becomes dean.
