Uniboard starts new press, enters western US market |

Uniboard's new press in
Val-d'Or goes into operation earlier than planned. Uniboard
products are now also available in the Western US market due to alliance with
Kustom Material Laminators
According to a press release from Pfleiderer AG, Uniboard's parent company, Uniboard intends to further increase its
sales of thermofused melamine panels in the future. The North American
company has already passed two milestones on the way to this goal: its
new melamine press in Val-d'Or has gone into operation earlier than
planned. This strengthens the Pfleiderer subsidiary's leading position
for thermofused panels in the North American continent; it now has a
total of ten melamine presses in this market.
New press secures competitive
advantages through enhanced flexibility
The modern melamine press
will enable the Uniboard site in Val-d'Or to expand its existing
portfolio.
"The flexibility of the new equipment will give us
competitive advantages in our core markets: Québec, Ontario and the
Northeast of the USA," stated James Hogg, CEO of Uniboard. The new
press, an investment of more than two million US dollars,
was originally scheduled to go into operation in the first quarter of
2010. But the project progressed very positively while demand for the
products increased. As a result, the equipment has gone into operation
several weeks earlier than planned.
And for the first time,
Uniboard has entered into a marketing alliance with Kustom Material
Laminators, a premier manufacturer of thermofused melamine in the
Western United States, allowing customers national access to Uniboard's
thermofused melamine color palette.
One element of Uniboard's growth strategy
is that it will be represented in the Western
states of the USA by the company KML in the future. Uniboard products
have previously not been available in this region. KML will include
Uniboard's entire design portfolio in the area of thermofused melamine
panels in its product offering.
"With this alliance, we create
flexibility and a level of service for our customers with Western US
locations that was not available before," explained Don Raymond, Vice
President Marketing at Uniboard.
